Dubai Culture Welcomes International Designer Roberto Coin for Creative Dialogue

A session uncovering the inspirations, stories, and ideas behind his design practice

Dubai, UAE, 3 December 2025: Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) organized a talk titled ‘Exploring Ideas: A Conversation with Roberto Coin,’ during which the celebrated Italian jewelry designer discussed his creative journey, the influences behind his work, and his approach to crafting distinctive contemporary designs. Supported by the Sikka Platform, the session introduced creatives to new perspectives that enrich learning and advance skills across design and the arts. The event reflects the Authority’s ongoing commitment to creative practitioners and reinforcing Dubai’s role as a global center for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent.

Held at Etihad Museum in the presence of Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture; Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of the Arts, Design & Literature Sector; and Khulood Khoory, Director of Projects & Events, the talk invited Coin to reflect on the milestones that shaped his career. He spoke about his early years in the hospitality industry, his decisive move into jewelry, and the moments that sparked his interest in the sector. He also discussed the creation of his design and creative hub and the launch of his brand in 1996, which quickly rose to prominence as one of the world’s leading jewelry houses.

Moderated by art curator Lucia Boscaini, the conversation explored the cultural influences that guide Coin’s practice and his drive to create designs that feel both bold and forward-looking. He spoke about his pursuit of balance between heritage and contemporary expression, noting that each of his pieces carries its own story and reflects the signature aesthetic that defines his work. Coin also addressed ethical considerations within the jewelry field and offered guidance to young creatives, encouraging them to keep developing their skills and to move towards their goals with confidence.

On the sidelines of the talk, Hala Badri met with Roberto Coin and commended his achievements. She reaffirmed Dubai Culture’s dedication to supporting designers and practitioners, fostering creativity, and opening pathways for entrepreneurs and emerging voices to contribute to the cultural and creative industries (CCIs). She also underscored the Authority’s efforts to cultivate an environment that enables homegrown talent to explore new ideas, develop their projects, enrich Dubai’s artistic landscape, and strengthen the emirate’s cultural presence on the global stage.

In her closing remarks, Khulood Khoory noted that Roberto Coin has, through years of experimentation and material exploration, developed a design language that stands out in the world of jewelry. She said the session offered valuable insight into how his practice has evolved and how ideas mature over time, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue around craftsmanship and creative processes. Khoory added that the Sikka Platform provides an important space for designers and practitioners to exchange knowledge and expertise, contributing positively to the CCIs.
