Dubai, UAE, July 9, 2024: The Sustainable City – Dubai unveiled today a communal art mural, made entirely from recycled plastic collected by Tadweer Waste Management in celebration of Plastic Free July. This initiative was a collaborative, inclusive activity that aims to bring residents, and students from Fairgreen International School and Sanad Village together, foster creativity, and promote sustainability through the creation of a collaborative mural. The mural, now displayed in a central community wall in The Sustainable City Plaza throughout the month of July, stands as a symbol of creativity and community spirit and a reminder of the ongoing battle against plastic pollution.
The Sustainable City is dedicated to fostering an educational culture that empowers residents and visitors to engage deeply with environmental issues. The Plaza shops have successfully adopted a single-use plastic-free strategy, dramatically reducing our collective plastic footprint since 2019. Additionally, the community has championed the repurposing of materials; playgrounds and the animal sanctuary, for example, have been constructed using repurposed construction waste. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to reduce waste, avoid single-use plastics and encourage the recycling and reuse of materials.
Dubai has recently introduced a complete ban on single-use bags across the city. This ban includes plastic, paper, and biodegradable bags, with plans to gradually ban other single-use plastic items like straws, cups, cutlery, and food containers by 2026.

The Sustainable City by Diamond Developers has been named the “happiest community” in Dubai at the first Gulf Real Estate Awards instituted by the Dubai Land Department.
The best master-development laurels went to Damac Properties for its Akoya cluster and the top prize for residential luxury went to Al Barari.
The best project in the hotel category was picked up by Enshaa and its Palazzo Versace in Culture Village. And the top pick in the retail category was the Al Mouj in Muscat.
