Lago Maggiore, 24 June 2025 – Westbrook Racing announces that Steve Curtis has left his position as Performance Coach with immediate effect to take on a new opportunity with Team Brazil. Steve will be stepping into the role of Team Principal at Team Brazil, starting from this weekend’s E1 race in Lago Maggiore and continuing for the remainder of the season.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Steve for his dedication and contribution to Westbrook Racing during a pivotal time for the team. His expertise and experience were instrumental in shaping our competitive debut in the E1 Championship in May 2024. As Performance Coach, Steve played a key role in advising our pilots and defining strategic decisions, helping lay the sporting foundations of the team.
Steve’s support was especially critical during the lead-up to our first race in Venice in 2024. Westbrook Racing was built from the ground up in just 40 days and joined the championship one race late—yet still went on to finish second overall in our debut season. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without Steve’s experience and technical insight.
A legend in the world of powerboat racing, Steve is the most accomplished offshore powerboat racer of all time. He became the youngest-ever UIM Class 1 World Champion at the age of 21 and went on to win the title a record nine times. In recognition of his extraordinary career, Steve was awarded an MBE for services to British sport on Queen Elizabeth II’s 80th Birthday Honours list and received the prestigious Segrave Trophy in 2003. Among many other accolades, he holds the LOTO Top Gun all-time record at 391 kph.
Phil Allen, Team Principal of Westbrook Racing, commented: “Steve has been an integral part of Westbrook Racing’s launch and early success. His guidance and experience were invaluable as we navigated the challenges of building a competitive team from scratch. We wish him all the very best in this new chapter with Team Brazil and thank him for everything he brought to our journey.”
Westbrook Racing remains focused on the ongoing 2025 season and will announce further updates regarding the sporting team structure in due course.
