Dubomedy Marks 18 Years of Comedy and Community in the UAE
Dubai, UAE | March 17, 2026 – This April, Dubomedy celebrates 18 years of comedy in the UAE, marking a milestone for the organization widely recognized for helping establish and grow the region’s stand-up and improv’ scene.
Founded on April 1, 2008 by renown comedians Ali Al Sayed and Mina Liccione, Dubomedy began with a clear goal: to create a home for comedy and provide professional training and performance opportunities for emerging voices in the region. At a time when there weren’t any platforms for aspiring comedians, Dubomedy introduced workshops, live performances featuring local comedy talent, and produced major Comedy Festivals that helped lay the foundation for the UAE’s vibrant comedy landscape.
Over the past 18 years, the organization has trained and mentored thousands of performers and enthusiasts across the region and internationally, creating a supportive environment where students develop their voice, collaborate with peers, and build lasting creative networks.
Many Dubomedy alumni have gone on to appear on networks including OSN and MBC, perform at the Edinburgh and Adeline Fringe Festivals, open for renown touring comedians, and launch their own comedy nights and productions across the world.
Dubomedy has also introduced pioneering initiatives including the region’s first Comedy School and all-female stand-up comedy troupe Funny Girls MENA, International Branch; Comedy Inc as well as Clowns Who Care, a volunteer program bringing laughter and performance to children’s hospitals, refugee camps, Autism Centers and Homes for Rescued Children.
Over the years, Dubomedy has also produced Major Comedy Festivals, TV Shows with Comedy Central Arabia and MBC, and earned a reputation as the go-to comedy home for performers visiting the region, frequently hosting surprise drop-in sets from top touring comedians. Recent appearances have included comedians Bassem Youssef, Mo Amer, and Jeffrey Ross, offering audiences the rare chance to see global talent up close in an intimate setting.
In addition to its artistic programming, Dubomedy provides corporate training and team building programs, using improvisation, comedy and public speaking techniques to help companies strengthen communication, creativity and collaboration.
To mark their 18th anniversary, Dubomedy will host a series of fun Sunday events throughout April, bringing the community together for evenings that blend comedy, music, games, and interactive performances. The celebrations will begin with a free comedy workshop for the community offering an opportunity to destress, calm the nerves and connect, and culminate on the last Sunday of April with a special Dubomedy alumni showcase, followed by a DJ set and party celebrating the performers, community and audiences who have been part of the journey.
Dubomedy launched during the 2008 global recession, continued through the challenges of a global pandemic, and now celebrates its 18th anniversary in another period of global uncertainty. Through it all, its mission has remained the same: bringing people together through laughter.
18 years of comedy.
18 years of community.
18 years of building the UAE comedy scene, one laugh at a time.
