Why Photo caption?

Why is using a caption for photos important? One of the most important components of a well-crafted press release is a photo caption. They increase audience engagement, boost the news story’s online visibility, and ultimately increase your return on investment. When writing a caption for a photo, there are some rules that must be followed.

SEO:

Photo caption makes it easy for search engines to understand the content of the photo, thus improving your image’s ranking in search results. It also enhances the audience’s engagement with the article; hence they spend more time on the page. Using relevant keywords in the photo caption can help search engines create a link between the image and those keywords, boosting SEO. Including keywords in captions can improve the search engine optimization (SEO) of your press release, making it easier for people to find the news story online. Why are captions important for image SEO? Because people use them when scanning an article. Optimizing your website for search engines is essential for increasing visibility, driving traffic, and achieving online success.

Names and Designations:

Include in the caption information that makes the readers know about the event. This includes the names of the people in the photo. If the number of people appearing in the photo is limited, two or less, then you can mention their names and designations. If many people are featured, then type the names and designations of the two VIPs or executives.

Event, date and Venue:

You also need to mention the event, venue, date and any other information you deemed necessary. In other words, photo captions should include the 5Ws of news story: Who, What, Where, When and Why.

Brevity:

Always opt for brevity in caption of photos shared with press release.  For a press release photo caption, aiming for around 10-20 words is typically ideal. This allows you to provide enough information while keeping it concise and engaging. This is without sacrificing the impact of your message. A caption that is clear and succinct has a higher chance of being read and remembered.

Accessibility:

Captions make your content more accessible to people with visual impairments who use screen readers. Describing the image in text ensures everyone can access the same information.

Placing:

It is preferable to use the caption for naming photo files, otherwise you can insert it at the end of the press release provided that the photos are given numbers if they are more than one.

To make things easy for our stakeholders, we have dedicated a Publish with Us page for them to submit their press release. In this page user can paste title, news story and attach photos with great ease.
